  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil For frying
  • Fresh apples Optional, for garnish
  • Whipped cream or yogurt Optional, for dipping
  • Nutmeg Optional, for extra flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash and peel the russet potatoes, then spiralize or cut them into curly shapes.
  2. Soak the curly potato slices in cold water for about 10 minutes.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the apple cider, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt.
Cooking
  1. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drain and pat the soaked potatoes dry, then fry them in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels, then toss in the cinnamon mixture.
  4. Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with apple slices, and serve with whipped cream or yogurt.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon mixture. Make sure to fry the potato curls in small batches to keep the oil temperature consistent. Experiment with different types of apples for garnish, as some may provide a better taste match.
