Ingredients

Sugar Cookie Dough
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter cold, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Color & Decoration
  • 1 few drops Red or pink food coloring
  • 1/2 cup Valentine sprinkles for rolling

Equipment

  • Stand mixer or hand mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • Parchment Paper
  • Baking Sheet

Method

Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add powdered sugar, granulated sugar, butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough in half. Leave one half plain and tint the other half with food coloring until evenly colored.
  3. Roll each dough portion between parchment paper into equal rectangles. Chill until firm, about 1 hour.
  4. Place the colored dough on top of the plain dough. Trim edges and roll tightly into a log.
  5. Roll the dough log in sprinkles, wrap tightly, and chill again for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice dough into rounds, place on baking sheets, and bake for 12–15 minutes until edges are lightly set.

Notes

For best swirl definition, keep the dough well chilled before slicing and baking. Gel food coloring gives the most vibrant color.
