Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles or edible decorations (for garnish)
  • Fondant (for decorations, optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
  8. Mix until everything is smooth and well-combined. If desired, add food coloring to the batter.
  9. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Decorating
  1. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  2. Once cool, you can frost and decorate the cake as desired.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before you start. Use a toothpick to check if the cake is done. It should come out clean or with a few crumbs. For a more decadent cake, consider using chocolate or cream cheese frosting. Experiment with different flavors by adding zest from citrus fruits or other extracts.
