Mix Wet Ingredients
- In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough discard, sugar, milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Combine All Ingredients
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
Prepare for Frying
- Next, heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Shape and Fry Donuts
- While the oil is heating, scoop the donut batter and shape it into rings or drop spoonfuls directly into the hot oil.
- Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Notes
Serve donuts warm or at room temperature. Dust with powdered sugar or dip in glaze. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week.
