Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the batter, alternating with milk until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Baking
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorating and Serving
- Once cooled, decorate with icing or frosting and your choice of decorations.
- Slice the cake into equal pieces and serve. Enjoy it as is, or pair it with ice cream or fresh fruit.
Notes
Store any leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want it to last longer, refrigerate it for up to a week. Cover it well to keep it moist.
