Preparation
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into patties.
Cooking
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Cook the patties on both sides until they are browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
- Add beef broth to the skillet and bring it to a simmer.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then stir this mixture into the beef broth to thicken it.
- Return the patties to the skillet and cover. Simmer for 10 minutes, spooning the gravy over the patties as they cook.
Serving
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice, pouring the rich gravy over the dish. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
If you have leftovers, let the Salisbury Steak cool down completely, then refrigerate in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for longer storage. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
