  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, chicken, or lamb)
  • 2 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit Adjust to taste for spice level
  • 1/2 cup peas (optional) Can substitute with other vegetables
  • 2-3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • to taste Salt
  • as needed Fresh cilantro for garnish

Method
 

Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and sauté until they crackle.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add ground meat and cook until browned.
  5. Mix in chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes soften.
  6. Add diced potatoes and peas, along with enough water to cover the ingredients.
  7. Simmer covered until potatoes are tender, about 20-25 minutes.
  8. Stir in garam masala and cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or bread.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Adjust the spice level by adding more or fewer green chilies. Can substitute peas with other vegetables like carrots or bell peppers. For a vegetarian version, use lentils or chickpeas instead of ground meat.
