Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and instant yeast together.
- Add the warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Fold in the shredded Gouda cheese and chopped dill.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours or until bubbles form on the surface.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Place a Dutch oven with its lid into the oven to heat for 30 minutes.
- Once hot, carefully remove the pot and transfer the dough onto a floured surface.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it in the pot (uncovered).
- Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
- Let cool before slicing.
Notes
Store at room temperature in a paper bag or a bread box to keep fresh. Avoid plastic bags to prevent a soggy crust. The bread is best eaten within a few days.
