  • 0.5 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper

  • 0.75 cup Pico de gallo fresh tomato salsa
  • 3 tbsp Mayonnaise optional

Method

Instructions
  1. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Butter the cut sides of the hoagie rolls and toast until lightly golden. Set aside.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high. Add ground beef to the skillet, season with chili powder, salt, and black pepper, and cook while chopping the meat into small pieces until fully browned.
  3. Divide the cooked beef into portions sized to the rolls. Place cheese slices on top and let them melt directly over the meat.
  4. Spread mayonnaise on the toasted rolls if using. Add the cheesy beef, then top with shredded lettuce and pico de gallo. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a pork-free version, avoid chorizo and use only ground beef or substitute with ground chicken or turkey. Adjust spice level to suit your taste.
