- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Butter the cut sides of the hoagie rolls and toast until lightly golden. Set aside.
- Increase heat to medium-high. Add ground beef to the skillet, season with chili powder, salt, and black pepper, and cook while chopping the meat into small pieces until fully browned.
- Divide the cooked beef into portions sized to the rolls. Place cheese slices on top and let them melt directly over the meat.
- Spread mayonnaise on the toasted rolls if using. Add the cheesy beef, then top with shredded lettuce and pico de gallo. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a pork-free version, avoid chorizo and use only ground beef or substitute with ground chicken or turkey. Adjust spice level to suit your taste.
