- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a casserole dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add the chopped onion and bell peppers to the skillet and cook until softened. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup until well combined, then remove from heat.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes until the tater tots are crispy and golden.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the casserole and return to the oven for 5 minutes, until melted.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey or chicken and use reduced-fat cheese. Do not thaw the tater tots before baking for best crispiness.
