Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine sourdough starter, warm water, melted butter, and sugar. Mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- If using, fold in chocolate chips.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
Rising
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 2-4 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased bread pan.
- Let it rise for another 30-60 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
Store the double chocolate sourdough bread in a sealed plastic bag or an airtight container at room temperature for a few days. Freeze for longer storage wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil.
