Main Ingredients
  • 1 head head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat.
  • 1 cup uncooked rice You can use instant rice, but add it during the last hour of cooking.
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Add red pepper flakes for a spicier flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion and garlic until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a crockpot, layer half of the chopped cabbage at the bottom.
  3. Add half of the browned beef mixture on top, followed by half of the rice.
  4. Pour half of the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes over the top.
  5. Repeat with the remaining cabbage, beef, rice, and sauces.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours until the cabbage is tender and rice is cooked.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, warm it up in the microwave or on the stovetop until heated through.
