For the Breadsticks
  • 1 cup sourdough discard Use leftover sourdough starter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat or gluten-free flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g. cheddar, mozzarella) Any preferred cheese can be used
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional: herbs (e.g. parsley, oregano) for seasoning Use fresh or dried herbs

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the sourdough discard, flour, shredded cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Drizzle in the olive oil and mix until a dough forms.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to your desired thickness.
  5. Cut the dough into strips or sticks.
  6. Place the sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle with herbs.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These breadsticks are delicious on their own or served with dips like marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or a creamy garlic dip. For storage, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for about a month.
