Method
Preparation
- In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
First Rise
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle.
- Spread the cranberries and almonds on top. Cut the dough into strips, stack them, and then cut them into squares.
Second Rise
- Arrange the squares in a greased baking pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Glaze
- Let the bread cool slightly, then drizzle the powdered sugar glaze and honey on top.
Notes
Make sure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast. Knead the dough well to develop the gluten, making the bread fluffy. Experiment with different nuts and dried fruits for variety. Allow enough time for each rise for the best texture.
