Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
- Mix in the sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Baking
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined.
- Fold in the walnuts, then pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Sprinkle the reserved walnuts on top.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling
- Remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Banana bread is best served sliced warm or at room temperature. Enjoy it plain or spread a little butter or cream cheese on top for extra flavor. To keep your banana bread fresh, store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
